Interesting. It sounds a bit like christian dominionism, that was around towards the end of the last millenium. They expect everything to fall apart at the end of 1999, and they expected to sweep in and take over.
It sounds like they are trowing back to ot systems and methods. The wt does a similar thing. "Pure" christianity tends to be nonmilitant, a benign, peacenik, almost hippieish movement. A bit like puddhism. It doesn't stand much of a chance against othermore aggressive religions. It was similar in the first century, they just sat around, until paul came on the scene and made things happen.

I am about halfway through the book currently. It is a frightening expose of the influence this group has had and is continuing to have on American politics. As a person who has escaped from a cult myself, I was immediately struck by the cultishness of The Family. Much of the book traces the historical roots of this group and how it has developed into the extremely politically well-connected entity is is today. I began reading the book just before the spate of sex scandals broke involving Family-connected congressmen. The Family loves to operate covertly, but their undercover fundamentalism is now seeing the light of news cameras and public scrutiny. These people operate with messianic conviction and ultimate faith in their own interpretation of Christianity, and they already have their hands deep into the pockets of power--here and around the world.

I've seen the author in a few interviews. Americans need to really stand back and take a long, hard look at who is running their country - these people are beyond cruel and heartless. They have one objective - and nobody and nothing stands in their way. It's frightening the power they have and the cloak of words they hide behind. Extreme fundamentalists who believe that you can rape children and not be held accountable because you are the chosen few........that says it all. (that example was used by the minister in charge of the C Street house apparently) sammieswife.
